A DAY IN THE LIFE
"Before I started Davidson, I was worried that I wouldn’t have time for anything else except being online . . . but I have time for art class, ballet class, playing with my kitten, reading, and writing!"

MANY SCREENS, ONE CLASSROOM
Davidson students might live across the country, but they most definitely go to school together. With regular weekly class schedules, students meet on web-conferencing software. Classes have up to three hours of live sessions each week. Through shared video screens, they participate in rich, content-based discourse, work in small groups, collaboratively solve problems, interact with teacher- or student-led discussions, and take notes—and even hang out together before and after class.

  9:30AM – Group Project Work

LEARNING TOGETHER

Davidson students work together on projects, meet before and after class to chat, eat lunch as a group while sharing video screens, and join clubs based on shared interests. It’s the best of both worlds—students who can run as fast as they desire academically, while sharing the journey with similarly gifted and committed peers.

A FULL DAY’S LEARNING
Just like brick-and-mortar schools, students begin live classes as early as 8 a.m. Live sessions, homework, and independent extracurricular activities in their local communities—such as music lessons, swimming, or math teams—can fill the day until about 4 p.m. Many students return to homework for a few hours in the evening.

  3:00PM – Math Club

CELEBRATING STUDENTS FOR WHO THEY ARE
Davidson students thrive because they are in a community. Many have spent years in school feeling isolated, different from their peers, always having to push themselves academically on their own. At Davidson, students find their group—other kids as gifted, motivated, and excited to learn as they are, no matter their age. They also find the school structure that drives them, celebrates, them, and welcomes them as they are.

“I’m in classes with other students . . . But for me, the fact that school is online means that I also have time alone that I really appreciate. I can actually be myself more, and more of the time, than at a brick and mortar school.”

  4:30PM – Swimming

SCHOOL BEYOND THE SCREEN
Much of Davidson happens online, but the day is also balanced with experiential activities that serve the whole child. Printed textbooks and paper notebooks are often an integral part of homework. Biology classes typically include dissection lab, delivered in the mail. All students are encouraged to participate in physical exercise and arts activities that they love, such as local ballet, swim classes, painting classes, or French horn lessons!

7:00PM – Study for Bio Test
