(Reno, Nev.) – For the second consecutive year, the Davidson Academy has been named as a winner of the Blackboard Catalyst Award for Teaching & Learning, which honors those who have adopted flexible, distance and online delivery, including using mobile technologies to positively impact the educational experience. The Davidson Academy has demonstrated innovative use of the Blackboard platforms, increasing flexibility, furthering learner and instructor effectiveness and efficiency.
Founded in 2005, the annual Catalyst Awards recognize and honor innovation and excellence in the Blackboard global community of practice, where millions of educators and learners work every day to redefine what is possible when leveraging technology. Winners are selected by a cross-functional team of Blackboard experts.
Located on the University of Nevada, Reno campus, the Davidson Academy was founded in 2006 as the first public school of its kind in the nation for profoundly gifted (high IQ) students. Since its inception, students from across the country have moved to Reno to attend. With the opening of Davidson Academy’s online campus in 2017, families unable to move to Reno can now access an appropriately challenging education for their student(s) through an innovative online model. Leveraging the power of Blackboard to deliver course content allows Davidson Academy Online
to use live session class time to foster meaningful interaction.
“Earning a Blackboard Learn Catalyst Award in the Teaching and Learning category reflects the continued focus and dedication of the Davidson Academy team on excellence in online learning,” said Stacy Hawthorne, Davidson Academy’s Director of Online Learning. “With an online education, gifted students have the opportunity to enroll in classes they may not be able to take locally, while accessing a social network of intellectual, same-age peers. We are thankful to be acknowledged by Blackboard for the second year in a row and for the support they have provided to help create a quality learning experience for our students.”
“We're thrilled to honor this year's Blackboard Catalyst Award winners for their commitment to improving the educational experience for all learners through EdTech and sharing these insights with the broader community," said Lee Blakemore, Chief Client Officer and President, Global Markets at Blackboard. "Clients like these inspire us to accelerate innovation that drives student success and we're proud to be a part of their story.”
The Davidson Academy team will be honored alongside other Blackboard Catalyst Award winners during BbWorld 2019
, Blackboard’s annual user conference to be held July 23-25 in Austin, Texas.
