Davidson Academy Online Campus to Briefly Re-Open 2020-2021 Application
News Release - July 20, 2020
Contact Information: email@example.com
The Davidson family has always believed that young people should have access to an education so they can learn and achieve at a level appropriate to their abilities. This is why the Davidson Academy was created. Our admissions practices are designed to ensure that we accept students who are optimally matched to our deep and rigorous curriculum so that they are successful.
While we have a long-standing practice of accepting applications from August through early spring, we understand the strain that COVID-19 has had on profoundly gifted students and their families. We also understand that the demand for high-quality online learning is at an all-time high. Our team has been at work brainstorming ways to continue our support of profoundly gifted students and their families. As a result, we have taken the unprecedented step to launch a special Davidson Academy Online Extended Application for one week.
After evaluating our current course schedule, enrollments, and staffing levels, we have determined that we are able to accommodate up to 16 new students at this time. While we recognize there may be more demand, our commitment to maintain the quality and ethos of a Davidson Academy education is essential.
Applicants must meet eligibility requirements
We understand that cancellations and closures have made it difficult or impossible to obtain the testing required for our qualifications criteria over the past few months. Although we are not adjusting our standards for admissions, we have modified the requirement to submit a qualifying test score. If you do not have a qualifying test, please upload any testing that you believe demonstrates the applicant is performing, at minimum, at the 99.9th percentile academically. Our admissions team will review all submitted testing.
Preference will be given to applicants with a qualifying score on any test posted on our website. We can accommodate up to 16 students for this assessment. Qualified applicants who are not invited to this assessment due to space limitations will be invited to assess in late 2020 for 2021 admissions with no additional application fee.
The Davidson Academy places students in courses based on ability rather than age or grade. Our main schedule is customarily created after all students have been accepted and their course needs have been determined. Since this unique application process is being offered after our schedule has been created, this application is limited to applicants who are between 11 and 15 years of age. This ensures the best opportunity for an applicant to fit within our current courses.
The Davidson Academy online campus is available to students who are physically located in the United States and Canada.

The application fee is $100. Applications without a paid application fee will not be reviewed.

Open to students who live anywhere in the United States, Davidson Academy Online is an accredited online school built off the one-of-a-kind, exceptional framework put in place by the Davidson Academy's Reno campus. Located on the University of Nevada, Reno campus, the Davidson Academy was founded in 2006 as the first public school of its kind in the nation for profoundly gifted (high IQ) students. With the opening of Davidson Academy’s online campus in 2017, families unable to move to Reno can now access an appropriately challenging education for their student(s) through an innovative online model. Leveraging the power of Blackboard to deliver course content allows Davidson Academy Online to use live session class time to foster meaningful interaction.
