Student Events

Students are able to enjoy a variety of events during the school year that build community, connections, and promote school spirit. Most events are designed by students for students. Events provide students with balance from the academics and the opportunity to engage with peers outside of the classroom.

Lock-In: All students are invited to play games, sing karaoke, and eat pizza until 11pm. Students over 13 can stay overnight on campus until 7am.Winter Book Exchange: Students sign-up to send books to fellow students over winter break.
Fall Festival: The main fundraiser for student clubs. Clubs host a carnival booth with all proceeds benefitting their yearly activities.DAO Splash!: A workshop day of informative presentations given by DAO students
Thanksgiving Potluck: The day before Thanksgiving break, students are invited to bring a dish to share at lunch with fellow students, staff, teachers, and alumni.Bupple Valentines: Bupple is a combination of the words bud and couple. Students are paired up by interest, meet virtually, and submit screenshots to be entered to win prizes.

Both campuses also host spirit weeks, dances, talent shows, art and movie nights, and plays. Together, they celebrate Pi(e) Day with a Pi reciting contest and other fun Pi(e) related activities.

The Davidson Academy’s Derek Lin Chien and Priyanka Senthil were recognized as the only two students in Nevada to be named U.S. Presidential Scholars! Additionally, Academy student Ellie A. Huh was named a semifinalist. Congratulations – we’re so proud of these students!

Congrats to Marvin from the Davidson Academy’s Online campus! He is the first Davidson Academy student to ever be named a MATHCOUNTS national champion!

Davidson Academy student Samantha G. has been featured in a number of news stories for her advocacy in helping abolishing “Period Poverty” by requiring free menstrual products in Nevada schools.

Davidson Academy student Julianna S. was named a Winner by the Reno, Nevada Affiliate in the 2021 National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) Award for Aspirations in Computing!

A team from the Davidson Academy are the 2021 National Biology Bowl Champions!

Davidson Academy online campus student Sequoia D. was recently accepted into the PEER Summer Research Program, a partnership between Caltech and the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine. In this program, high schoolers have the opportunity to intern with laboratories at Caltech and will receive lessons on anatomy and medicine.

Davidson Academy student Claire B. was named a “National Cyber Scholar” after winning a nationwide competition! Claire is one of only 10 students in Nevada to be recognized. To earn this recognition, students won a rigorous 48-hour competition designed to evaluate aptitude in combating cyber threats.

The Davidson Academy middle school team finished in the top 16 of the National Science Bowl!

The Davidson Academy Science Olympiad Middle School Team recently participated in the National Science Olympiad Tournament. It was a great accomplishment to make it to the Nationals and represent Nevada after winning 1st place in Division B at the Nevada State Tournament earlier this year. The following students ranked in the top ten nationally amongst 60 teams that participated in this year’s tournament:

  • Elijah J. and Lily Y. – Game On event: 4th Place nationally in Division B
  • Ethan C. and Henry H. – Write it Do it event: 7th Place nationally in Division B
