Campus Resources

For Davidson Academy students, the University of Nevada, Reno offers a wide range of academic opportunities, technological and cultural resources. With access to these resources, students will be able to expand their learning beyond the classroom.

Areas of Study

Davidson Academy students are also registered as non-degree seeking University students, which makes them eligible for dual enrollment opportunities. While following a personalized learning plan, Davidson Academy students are able to enroll in University classes for high school graduation credits and university credits. For students who go on to matriculate, the University offers degrees, certificates, and licensures in over 140 major disciplines. Learn more about these programs on the Degrees and Programs page.

Dining

There is a variety of dining options on the University of Nevada, Reno campus. The Joe Crowley Student Union provides additional dining options including Great Full Gardens, Port of Subs, Starbucks, Keva Juice, U-Swirl, and Panda Express.

Campus

The 290-acre campus provides a multitude of programs and services designed to assist each student make the most out of the university experience. Below are just a few of the newer buildings on campus with more to come.

The Joe Crowley Student Union houses the Nevada Wolf Shop, a variety of dining options, a Wells Fargo branch, ATM machines, meeting rooms, a ballroom, and a 200-seat movie theatre. The Union also hosts the administrative offices for the Graduate Student Association, Associated Students of the University of Nevada, and the Center for Student Cultural Diversity.

The Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center is the central branch of the University Libraries. The University Libraries also include the DeLaMare Science & Engineering Library, the Savitt Medical Library, the Basque Library, and Special Collections & University Archives. The University Libraries offer assistance from 22 subject librarians, each with a specialty in specific areas of research. Students have access to over 1.9 million books and ebooks; 200,000 historical photos; and 220,000 maps among other resources. Additionally, through @One and DeLaMare’s Makerspace, students can check out audio/visual recording and presentation equipment and utilize large-format printers, 3D printers, laser cutters, soldering equipment, and other maker tools.

The Marguerite Wattis Petersen Athletic Academic Center offers a one stop shop for University athletes. The Academic Center provides an advising center, computer lab, study areas, a lounge, and advisor offices.

The Davidson Mathematics and Science Center has a 500-seat auditorium, more than 25 laboratories, and a 50-seat computational classroom.

The Pennington Student Achievement Center brings together vital student centers formerly scattered throughout the campus under one roof. This new facility encourages interaction among students, staff, and faculty of all backgrounds by providing gathering spaces and student resource centers that are open and accessible to every member of the campus community.

Additional Resources

Academic resources include a writing & speaking center and tutoring center in addition to the four campus libraries. The University also houses a health center, counseling center, and fitness center.

There are also a plethora of services and opportunities for students to get involved in outside of the standard classroom education. The Associated Students of the University of Nevada sponsors over 150 clubs and organizations that students can join and is responsible for many programs throughout the year including movie nights, homecoming, Mackay Week, concerts, and the professional speakers series. As a NCAA Division 1 school, the Wolf Pack plays an important role in rallying school spirit for our students.

As a center of culture in Northern Nevada, the University is home to the University District Museums, a consortium of 12 diverse organizations including a planetarium, an arboretum, and the University Galleries as well as museums that delve deep into specific areas of study. The University District Museums offer students research, internship, and volunteer opportunities and also offer public programming and events. Further, the School of the Arts hosts over 300 performances and 50 exhibitions each year in addition to presentations by visiting artists. Besides having the ability to dabble in different disciplines like archaeology, theater, and psychology, being able to take any course I wanted to at UNR is how I found my primary academic interest—computer science.
