Jhone Ebert

Superintendent of Public Instruction, Nevada Department of Education

Governor Steve Sisolak appointed Jhone Ebert as the Superintendent of Public Instruction for the Nevada Department of Education in March 2019. Ebert is a life-long educator with executive-level expertise in state and district education administration. She has demonstrated a commitment to working collaboratively with teachers, school and community leaders, and other stakeholders to create policies that are consistent and feasible while providing flexibility for adaptation to diverse students, geographies, and educational delivery models.

From 2015-19, she served as the senior deputy commissioner for P-20 education policy at the New York State Education Department. In that role, Superintendent Ebert was the senior education policy advisor to the state commissioner and Board of Regents, leading policymaking and programs affecting teaching and learning from early childhood through postsecondary education, or P-20. During her tenure, graduation rates in New York increased and achievement gaps narrowed.

Previously, Ebert served in the Clark County School District (CCSD) for 25 years, most recently as chief innovation and productivity officer and chief technology officer. Ebert served in a variety of leadership roles within CCSD and began her education career as a mathematics teacher in Las Vegas.

Superintendent Ebert’s career in education is rooted in the belief that the agenda is unfinished until every single child is thriving and has a clear pathway to success in school and life. If not for the opportunities that school afforded her, her own educational and career journey would have been much different. At a time when classrooms are growing more diverse, it is critically important that students have access to adults who not just look like them but whose personal histories exemplify the power of schools to change lives.

Ebert is the recipient of numerous professional honors and awards, including the National School Boards Association’s Technology Leadership Network 20 to Watch, the CCSD Excellence in Education Hall of Fame Award, the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching, and the Fulbright-Hayes Program scholarship. Ebert received her Master of Education in Instructional and Curricular Studies from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and her Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from California State University Fresno.
